Wondering what a cheesemaking workshop actually looks like? From morning tea to your first stretch of haloumi, here's a peek behind the scenes at a typical day in the cellar door.

Arrival & Morning Tea

You'll arrive at Atze's Corner Wines cellar door in the Barossa Valley, surrounded by vineyards and wine barrels. We kick things off with a relaxed Barossa morning tea — a chance to meet your fellow cheesemakers and settle in before we get our hands dirty.

The Main Event: Hands-On Cheesemaking

This is where the magic happens. I walk you through every step — from heating the milk and adding cultures, to cutting curds, draining, and shaping your cheese. Everyone works at their own station, so you're truly making your own cheese from start to finish.

Don't worry if you've never done anything like this before. Most of our participants are complete beginners, and I guide you through every single step. By the end, you'll be amazed at what you've created.

Wine & Cheese During the Wait

Cheesemaking involves some waiting periods — while curds set, while cheese drains. We make the most of these moments with wine tasting from Atze's cellar door and a beautiful cheese platter. It's one of the things that makes our workshops feel like a true Barossa experience, not just a cooking class.

Take It Home

At the end of the workshop, you leave with the cheese you made, printed recipes, and the confidence to do it all again at home. Many of our participants go on to make cheese regularly — and our Cheese Enthusiasts Facebook group is always there if you need a hand.
